Jay-Z’s 40/40 Club in New York’s Flatiron District has closed after 20 years.

“We are currently closed but will reopen at a new location in February 2024,” a message showing on the club’s official website states. According to an initial report from Eater NY, the club's original location made the move to shut its doors for good at the end of last month. Additional information on a new location for the flagship was not immediately provided. The 40/40 Club located at Barclays, meanwhile, is expected to remain open.

In 2021, Jay and company commemorated the club's 18th anniversary with a star-stacked celebration attended by Diddy, Lil Uzi Vert, Remy Ma, and more. The event stood as a fitting testament to the legacy of the club, the post-renovations design of which Jay detailed in a 2012 Rolling Stone piece.

Jay specifically highlighted the space’s chandeliers and upstairs area, all under the design of Jeffrey Beers. Per Jay’s comments at the time, the aim was to “retain the feel of a clubhouse, a relaxed place to interact with friends.”

Jay is currently fresh off becoming the first Black male artist with at least 10 double-platinum studio album certifications from the RIAA. Key in Jay earning his 10th such certification was his 2009 album The Blueprint 3, which hit two million RIAA-certified units on July 12.

That same month, Jay was on hand for the launch of the Brooklyn Public Library's new exhibition, The Book of HOV. Uzi, DJ Khaled, Alicia Keys, Zane Lowe, Roc Nation CEO Desiree Perez, and many more joined Jay for the opening.
