Ja Rule has reportedly bagged a bit of a legal victory in the ongoing Fyre Festival fallout.
Wednesday, per the New York Daily News, Judge Kevin Castel decided Ja Rule (as well as Fyre Fest chief marketing officer Grant Margolin) hyping the doomed festival ahead of its collapse did not necessarily mean they were aware that prospective attendees were going to get burned.
Attorney Ryan Smith said in a statement that Ja Rule was pleased with this development, which was notably reported in a much different way by TMZ, which later received public criticism from Ja on social media.
"[Ja Rule] is thankful for today's ruling and for the Court's time and attention," Smith said. "Justice was done today." By Castel's assessment, "there is no assertion" that the festival was originally planned to fall apart, as it so famously did.
As noted in a separate Bloombergreport, plaintiffs had alleged that both Ja Rule and Margolin were guilty of making "false representations" about the festival. Per that report, the suit can move forward against Fyre Media and Billy McFarland, while Ja and Margolin are "free."
Wednesday night, Ja Rule took public issue with TMZ's piece on the suit, even sharing an alleged screenshot of a text he had received from someone at the publication congratulating him on the suit's latest development.
