Flavor Flav says his “spirit is broken” after an alleged incident involving security operating at the behest of NBC at Wednesday night’s Rockefeller Center Christmas tree lighting ceremony.

In a tweet that has since been removed, Flav, an inarguable highlight of NBC’s Paris Olympics coverage over the summer, said that he was hanging out with his Backstreet Boys pals when he was approached by security. Confusingly, Flav pointed out, he was simultaneously approached about taking part in some social media content creation for the event.

“I feel weird,” Flav told fans in the since-deleted tweet. “I was invited to the Rockefeller tree lighting tonight and I was escorted to see my boys, the Backstreet Boys, and we were backstage in their dressing room. Security came up to me and says NBC does not want me in this area and I need to leave. At the same time, their social media woman came up and asked to capture social content.”

Flav continued, “What did I ever do to NBC or anyone? All I ever do is try to spread joy and love, and I think I did that for NBC at the Olympics.”

In a follow-up, Flav added, “I deleted the tweet but my spirit is broken.” He also shouted out BSB in response to a fan who questioned whether the group took up for him during the alleged incident, writing, “They spoke up for me. They sure did.”

In a later tweet, Flav shared a video of himself enjoying the ceremony, suggesting the issue had been resolved, at least to some degree. He also IG'd footage of himself with the BSB guys, as well as shared a pair of holiday pics with his friend Jack Barakat, guitarist for All Time Low.

Complex has reached out to NBC reps for comment. This story may be updated.

In a sign that X, formerly known as Twitter, still has a bit of its old life left in it yet, many were quick to flip Flav’s “I deleted the tweet but my spirit is broken” into a playful meme, like so:

It's hard to imagine Flav himself not getting a good laugh out of that, though he hadn't joined in on the memery as of this writing.
