“Nokia,” a standout track off last month’s PARTYNEXTDOOR and Drake album $ome $exy $ongs 4 U, has become the first song from the joint project to receive an official video.
On Monday, as promised, the video for the Elkan-produced Drake track was released. According to a caption of the Instagram post Drake shared that teased the clip, the video for "Nokia" was shot on IMAX and directed by Theo Skudra. The video comes with a cameo appearance from NBA star Shai Gilgeous-Alexander.
In February, footage of Elkan crafting what would become the bedrock to “Nokia” was shared to Instagram, giving fans a glimpse at the uniquely personal creative process behind the Hot 100 top 10 entry. As Elkan revealed earlier that month when commemorating the $$$4U release, he was experiencing a “mental breakdown” during the making of the track.
“I channeled all the pain, trauma, and joy into music, not letting a fucked up mental state stop me from expressing myself,” Elkan—also credited with keyboards, additional vocals, and programming on the track—said at the time.
