Consequence Tackles Addiction on New Song "Overdose" f/ YNW Melly

In an interview last year, Cons said Melly's appearance on the song "might be the last feature" he did before his 2019 arrest on murder charges.

Months after teasing the track as boasting what "might be the last feature" from YNW Melly before his arrest on murder charges, Consequence has officially rolled out his new single, "Overdose."

The song, Cons’ first since last month’s "No Apologies" with Ye, opens with an admission that everyone has within them the potential to simply "go too far." The verses see Cons elaborating on this in a literal sense, with reflections on the impact addiction can have on both the person struggling to get it under control and those around them, especially family.

"Every family’s got a fiend who’s embarrassed them," Cons raps at one point, adding in an example from his own family. Elsewhere in the track, Cons expresses concern for "a new generation waiting to overdose" and urges those listening to take in the message and apply it to their own lives.

"If you got addicts in your family, then hold ‘em close," he raps toward the end of the four-minute song.

A producer for the track is not currently listed on streaming services. However, Cons previously shared footage to social media of him and Ye at Timbaland’s studio "cooking up what would be my next single," i.e. "Overdose."

Last October, Cons spoke with Mackenzie Cummings Grady for XXL about the "Overdose" sessions in Miami, noting that Chief Keef was also on hand. By Cons' estimation, his and Melly's time together in 2019 came mere days before the double murder case arrest.
