Chance the Rapper Captures Police Stop on Livestream: 'Can't Be Too Careful'

Chance livestreamed a traffic stop in Chicago after getting pulled over on the way home from church.

Word of advice: Film all interactions with police. Chance the Rapper led by example Sunday, livestreaming a traffic stop in Chicago "in case it gets out of hand."

From the passenger seat, Chance explained the situation to his 6.7 million Instagram followers. "Kirsten [Corley] got pulled over," he said. "I just want y'all to be here, in case it gets out of hand. Should be good though. Should be straight. I have great faith in humanity, and the men and women that put on the badge. But, you know, can't be too careful."

After a brief pause, Chance continued: "Shout-out to WorldStar for just tuning in, because y'all could definitely help me out if it goes sideways," he said. "Once again, lot of faith in the men and women… big faith in the men and women that put on the uniform, but policing as a system is disproportionately racist and oppressive, so, you know. I'm with my baby, I got no burner in the car, no drugs in the car, nothing going on. Just came back from church."

Corley, the Chicago Sun-Timesreported, was stopped by an Illinois State Police officer at around 1 p.m. Sunday for a moving violation. She was ultimately given a warning. "See, I knew he was a good dude," Chance said near the end of his livestream.

Chance has been consistently outspoken about America's police brutality problem. During his acceptance speech in June for the BET Humanitarian Award, for example, Chance used part of his time on the stage to highlight courts' repeated failure to convict officers.
