Britney Spears’ Father Must Sit for Deposition and Share Electronic Surveillance Documents, Judge Rules

Britney Spears’ father has been ordered by a Los Angeles judge to sit for a deposition.

PerVariety, Los Angeles County Superior Court judge Brenda Penny ruled during a tense hearing on Wednesday that Jamie Spears must be deposed within 30 days. Additionally, Jamie will be required to share any documents related to allegations of electronic surveillance.

As for a request from Jamie’s attorney to have Britney deposed, a decision was not reached during the latest hearing. Instead, per the in-court report, both sides will have the opportunity to further argue this facet of the case later this month.

Spears’ lawyer, Mathew S. Rosengart, spoke to reporters after Wednesday’s hearing and described the latest proceedings as amounting to a “very good day in court” for his client, as well as for justice in general. He also accused Jamie of “hiding” for at least nine months.

“The court, as you all heard, granted our motion to compel the attendance of Jamie Spears at his deposition,” Rosengart said. “Over the other side’s objection, the court also granted our application to have that deposition in Los Angeles. Mr. Spears, as the court determined, has now effectively been hiding, hiding from his deposition for no less than nine months.”

Addressing the requirement that Jamie must produce all documents requested by Britney’s team, Rosengart said the singer’s father has previously “failed” to do this via what he described as “obstruction and stonewalling” tactics.

The ongoing legal back-and-forth follows last November’s termination of Spears’ widely criticized conservatorship.

“I think I’m gonna cry the rest of the day !!!! Best day ever … praise the Lord,” Spears said in a since-removed Instagram post at the time.

Last month, Britney Spears married Sam Asghari in an intimate ceremony attended by—among others—Paris Hilton, Madonna, Drew Barrymore, and Selena Gomez.
