Detroit 2, the first solo full-length album from Big Sean since his 2017 Billboard 200 chart-topper I Decided, is here.

As was evidenced in the tracks "Deep Reverence" (featuring the late Nipsey Hussle) and "Harder Than My Demons," both released in recent days in the lead-up to the album’s drop, Sean's latest sees him more focused than he's ever been. In a Vulture chat with Craig Jenkins published this week, Sean revealed how the fact of "all our lives" having shifted affected the lyrical content of the album.

Asked if he had chosen to delay the album's drop date after things "went left" globally, Sean said that he was finding himself listening to songs from the album and feeling that he needed to "progress the album a little further."

Stream Detroit 2—which also features the Lil Wayne collab "Don Life," as well as appearances by Dave Chappelle and Post Malone, among othersbelow via Spotify and/or grab it on Tidal, Apple Music, YouTube, etc.

The album campaign has been accompanied by the release of new Detroit 2-themed merch, most recently including a (very) limited edition run of tees adorned with "Harder Than My Demons"-referencing art.

And ahead of the Detroit 2 release, Sean gave fans some insight on why he wasn't among the G.O.O.D. artists who released a seven-tracker back in 2018. In the same Vultureinterview excerpted above, Sean explained that he simply "wasn't feeling the vibe," though he means "no disrespect" by that.

"All the projects were very unique," Sean offered. "But when it was time for me to really get in there on that, I guess I wasn't inspired."

With Detroit 2, however, it appears that inspiration finally came to Sean in full force.
