Akademiks Says His Ties to Drake Are Worth More Than an Interview: ‘He Don’t F*ck With Nobody Else in Media’

“Everybody who has a substantial platform, not one of them has a line to the biggest rapper” said Ak.

Akademiks isn’t all that concerned with nailing down a Drake interview, despite recent chatter on social media focused on his association with the 100 Gigs artist.

Specifically, Ak was reacting to a clip from a recent episode of Cuhmunity with Jason Martin and Glasses Malone, arguing that it was “intellectually dishonest” to posit that Drake was going elsewhere for long-form interviews.

“He don’t fuck with nobody else in media,” Ak said. “Here’s my only thing that’s a little bit dishonest about that, because the majority of the media, our job as the media is to have these relationships [and] sources. Everybody who has a substantial platform, not one of them has a line to the biggest rapper. To me, that’s why I say to y’all that association pays me its weight in gold. It’s worth its weight in gold.”

Elaborating further, Ak noted he’s not “pushy with interviews” in general, using a would-be interview opportunity with an unnamed artist as an example.

“I just really don’t give a fuck,” he pointed out, later circling back to his thoughts on how he views others in the present-day media space.

“I do wanna ask the majority of the media this question,” Ak said. “Y’all have your sources too, a lot of y’all, but why does the biggest artist in the game not fuck with none of y’all? That’s a really good question to ask.”

As for Drake, specifically, Ak theorized that other associations of this variety have fallen apart “because they all felt like he promised them interviews.”

Ak has long been a source of Drake-related news items, including one from earlier this month regarding Young Thug’s release from custody following a lengthy and widely criticized RICO trial in Georgia. According to Ak, the 6 god “flew to Thug” within hours of his release and “gave him a mil.”

This week, talk has been focused on Drake’s legal filings against UMG in connection with “Not Like Us.” On the horizon is a new joint album with PARTYNEXTDOOR, though something in the solo vein may also be coming sooner than later.
