Ab-Soul on People 'Pretending to Overlook' Him: 'It’s Unbecoming'

Ab-Soul, whose latest album Soul Burger was recently named one of the best of the year by Complex, is urging everyone else to “stop pretending to overlook me.”

Soul Burger, Ab’s sixth studio release and first since 2022’s Herbert, arrived via Top Dawg Entertainment back in November. Its title serves as a tribute to Doeburger, who died in 2021. Ty Dolla Sign, Doechii, Vince Staples, and more make appearances on the album, with “California Dream” most recently getting the official video treatment.

As Ab explained on X this week, he “put it all on the table” with this album, which he justifiably considers a “phenomenal body of work” in his larger catalog.

“This may be distasteful for me to say on my own, given the insatiable state of social media. But, fucc it,” Ab said in one tweet. “Soul Burger is a phenomenal body of work. I put it all on the table. Stop pretending to overlook me. It’s unbecoming of the culture.”

In another tweet, Ab added, “I will be heard. Mark my word.”

Ab recently took part in the annual TDE Christmas Concert and Toy Drive, with the 2024 edition said to have drawn roughly 10,000 attendees. SZA, Jay Rock, Doechii, GloRilla, and more also popped out for this year’s Watts event; Kendrick Lamar and Ab, meanwhile, made headlines for reuniting on stage together during a performance of the GNX track “Squabble Up.”

On the horizon for Ab is a slot on Wiz Khalifa’s 420 on the Rocks show at the revered Red Rocks venue in Colorado next April. Larry June, Chevy Woods, and DJ Bonics are also on the bill for the shrewdly timed throwdown, tickets for which are now available.
