50 Cent Claims He and Floyd Mayweather Invented the Money Phone

Following Future and Boosie's reactions to Jay Z's money phone lyric on "The Story of O.J.," 50 Cent lays claim to inventing them.

50 Cent, fresh off categorizing Jay Z's new album as "golf course music," just dropped another 4:44 claim on Instagram. This time, 50 had something to say about Jay's dig on 4:44 single "The Story of O.J." about artists "on the 'gram holding money to your ear."

"Just so you know where the money to the ear thing came from," 50 captioned a photo Wednesday night of himself and Floyd Mayweather happily speaking into phones made of money. "The original TMT." TMT is a reference to the Money Team, Mayweather's lifestyle brand.

For a deeper look at 50 and Mayweather's money phone history, check out the 2011 clip below in which the two friends hold an extended conversation on money phones. The money phone chat starts at around the 0:39 mark.

50 isn't the first artist to issue a response to the 4:44 lyric. Future shared a money phone selfie on Snapchat just days after 4:44 dropped, with fans theorizing the photo was a reaction to both the money phone dig on "The Story of O.J." and other lyrics on the album believed to be about Future.

Boosie Badazz also took issue with the money phone line. "In Louisiana, that's just like a trend, shit won't stop in Louisiana...Everybody don't have bank accounts," he said on Instagram earlier this week. "Everybody don't know about assets. Everybody don't come up, everybody not business-minded like that."

The official video for "The Story of O.J." was recently made available on YouTube. Catch it below.
