Savannah Ré Drops “Fiji," Her First Single of 2022

Fresh off of receiving two new Juno Award nominations, Savannah Ré has shared new single "Fiji," detailing a clingy lover she keeps entertaining.

Juno winner and recent third-time nominee Savannah Ré has just shared her first release of 2022, “Fiji,” as well as a visualizer for the track.

A lushly produced single featuring sampled harps that dance over a trap beat, “Fiji” details a clingy lover that Ré loves to entertain. “So needy/On the phone every time you leave me/Know you thinkin’ ‘bout it as your Fiji/Know it’s second nature when you see me,” she sings.

Though Ré so often sings about annoyances in love and failed romances, her husband YogiTheProducer has played a huge role in her creative process. In an interview with Complex Canada, she spoke of how comfortable and open their partnership is.

“We do everything together,” she said. “And people wonder about that, too. Because some of the songs like ‘Homies’ or ‘Love Me Back,’ when I’m talking like a whole lot of shit, they’re like, ‘And he produced this?’ But, you know, not everything, one, is about him. But, two, it’s also like, we’re so used to creating with each other. It’s been [that way] since we met in 2015. We’ve literally been working together almost every day, since that point. So it’s very, very comfortable. Like, I’m so comfortable being completely honest or vulnerable around him. So, you know, it’s easy.”

2021 was a big year for Ré, as she made Canadian music history when she became the first artist to ever win the Traditional R&B/Soul Recording of the Year at the Juno Awards. Since then, she’s been nominated for another two Junos, and has become one of the first Canadian artists to be selected for the global #YouTubeBlack Voices Music Class of 2022.

“Fiji” follows Ré’s 2020 debut EP,Opia and last year’s single “24hrs.”
