Portion Taps Toosii for New Track "Eastside”

Toronto's Portion and North Carolina rapper Toosii have come together for a melodic new single, "Eastside", out via Warner Records, who recently signed Portion.

Toronto’s Portion has linked up with North Carolina rapper Toosii on new track “Eastside”.

Melodically driven with buzzy, distorted vocals, “Eastside” details missing your friends back home and staying loyal to where you’re from when you venture on a new path. As Portion hails from Scarborough in Toronto’s east end, he hopes his friends still ride with him when he’s “in L.A. with the vibes.”

“Seeing Toosii attack his verse was like watching myself work. A lot of times you don’t know what you’re getting into when working with another artist but when you meet someone genuine in this game with accomplishments to go with it, you gotta salute it,” Portion says of the collab.

Portion has freshly signed with Warner Music after years of DIY-ing it. “It’s been helpful to have a team in your corner that believes in everything you’re doing,” he told Complex Canada. “My indie grind was just me and my producer, and my cousin and my brother, just working on sounds. That was the team. I got used to that over time—managing myself, recording myself, and coming up with treatments for my videos. I was self-sufficient for a long time. So then it felt like the right time to partner with Warner, and see how far we can take it.

“Eastside” follows Toosii surprising us with his Thank You For Believing (The Manifestation) mixtape last year. After Portion dropped his EP I Am Nothing Without last year, he also made an appearance on Hous3 of Commons’ collaborative LASA6NA EP.
