Ahead of this year’s festival, AFROWAVETO have released a stacked lineup for their Black History Month virtual winter concert series.

Streaming on Feb. 24 at 7 p.m., The Supernatural Showcase has a stacked all-women lineup, featuring the talents of Omega Mighty, Chelsea Stewart, Dynesti, Chizzy Bashment, Alicia Cinnamon, Benita, Imah, and Fridaee.

The show boasts up-and-coming stars with diverse musical backgrounds. AFROWAVETO’s goal is to showcase lesser known musical styles such as Afrobeat, dancehall, and reggaeton alongside more well known genres like rap and R&B.

AFROWAVETO was founded in 2019 by Jamaican-Canadian artist Lexxicon with a mission to provide growth opportunities for Black musicians in the Toronto music industry through intentional music programming, the creation of safe spaces, and through community and cultural connections. Though there are a multitude of successful African, Caribbean, Indigenous Black Canadian and Afro Latinx musicians, AFROWAVETO say this isn’t represented in local festival lineups and showcases.

The Supernatural Showcase can be streamed on AFROWAVETO’s YouTube channel, and you can register for the free event here.

This year’s AFROWAVE Festival will take place on April 24, and can also be streamed from AFROWAVETO’s Youtube channel. Stream the Spotify playlist for the festival below.
