Things are getting even worse for the organizers of the disastrous Fyre Festival. Less than two days after getting hit with a $100 million suit by super-lawyer Mark Geragos, Ja Rule and his shady pal Billy got some more bad news on Tuesday.
According to the Hollywood Reporter, attorney John Girardi is helping three festival-goers sue Ja, Billy McFarland, and their company for "breach of contract, negligent misrepresentation and fraud." The suit, which was filed in L.A., says that the organizers knew full well that they couldn't deliver the luxurious festival that they promised, but took peoples' money anyway.
But there's another element to the suit as well. Girardi is claiming that the social media posts about the festival by "influencers" like Bella Hadid and Kendall Jenner were illegal. The suit says that the stars were being paid to tell their followers about the festival, but didn't disclose that, which is a violation of Federal Trade Commission rules (albeit a common one). According to FTC rules, if a "significant portion" of a celeb's social media following is unaware that he or she is being paid by an advertiser for a post, "disclosures are needed."
Girardi and company are aiming to bar the Fyre Festival people from putting on any similar events—and, of course, they also want money: "restitution, punitive damages and disgorgement of any profits," according to reports. The plaintiffs want to make this a class action suit, which can be joined by anyone who bought tickets to the festival, whether they ended up attending or not.
