With recent reports about R. Kelly grooming girls as young as 14 for sex adding to the long list of accusations against the R&B singer, RCA Records label mate Jack Antonoff has apparently been trying to get him dropped for a while, Fader reports.
Antonoff, who has worked with pop stars like Taylor Swift and Lorde, posted and then deleted a tweet on Wednesday night stating he has raised concern over it "many times." Even though it's now deleted, another Twitter user was able to get a screen grab before it was gone. "I hope my label drops R. Kelly," he tweeted, "I've discussed it with them a number of times."
While he didn't call out RCA specifically, the label has been releasing Kelly's music since 2012 in addition to records from Fun. and Bleachers. While Kelly's involvement with underage girls date back to the early '90s, an upcoming BBC documentary titled R Kelly: Sex, Girls & Videotapes is set to offer more details about the "sex cult" that came to light last summer. This will include recent reports about him"training" teenaged girls on how to sexually please him.
The accusations have continued to come in, and there have been several calls for his label to drop him as well venues and promoters to cancel his live shows, most notably the #MuteRKelly campaign. So far, the online petition has garnered well over 35,000 signatures and the campaign has successfully had nearly 10 of Kelly's shows cancelled in various cities across the country.
