Summer Walker is having quite a year.
The Atlanta native stopped by NPR’s Tiny Desk Concert one week after her record-breaking studio debut to perform five songs, breaking out her guitar for "Session 32," “Riot,” and "Wasted,” hits that her day one fans are probably most familiar with. She also gave the audience a listen to the song that made her most famous, "Girls Need Love.” Walker brought her soulful set to an end with her newest single “Playing Games.”
"Look, I'm really freaking excited to be here but I have social anxiety like a motherfucker," Walker said, according to NPR. "I'm freaked the hell out, I'm sweating, but this is so exciting for me. I watch this show all the time." Watch the video up top.
The 23-year-old’s Over It debuted at No. 2 on the Billboard 200 chart with 134,000 equivalent album units. Fans clearly love Walker, as she now boasts the largest streaming week of all time or an R&B album by a woman, managing to best Beyoncé'sLemonade.
One of Walker’s biggest fans, Drake, had to let her know just how much he enjoyed her record. Drizzy direct messaged Walker to let her know that “Fun Girl” blew his mind. He then told her that she “snapped” on the album and he was inspired to write two new songs at 7:30 a.m. He makes an appearance on Over It, along with PARTYNEXTDOOR, Bryson Tiller, Usher, 6lack, and Jhené Aiko.
NPR's music series has featured some heavy hitters recently, with Taylor Swift making her Tiny Desk debut this week and Alabama Shakes lead Brittany Howard stopping by on her solo album campaign as well.
