Wiz Khalifa Tells Fans: ‘Lean is Lame; Feel Empowered’

Wiz has decided to offer some thoughts about casual codeine consumption.

Wiz Khalifa—a man with a proclivity to blaze up a joint or six—took to Instagram Saturday with a message for viewers about the popularity of “lean.”

“You know I was doing a lot of thinking, because I like to think a lot,” Wiz said between drags of a particularly large joint. “And you know when a lot of people follow one trend, or find themselves doing the same thing that everyone else is doing, you don’t really get someone who speaks for the other side. So I’m gonna just go ahead and speak for the other side. Lean is lame.”

For the uninitiated, lean is the mix of Codeine cough suppressant with soda and sometimes the occasional Jolly Rancher. As for the trendiness of the concoction, it’s been endorsed by the likes of Three 6 Mafia and UGK on 2000’s “Sippin' On Some Syrup” and Ab-Soul on “Mixed Emotions” from 2012’s Control System. It's also the substance behind almost every one of Lil Wayne's unmarked cups.

The deaths of DJ Screw, and Pimp C have both been linked to codeine consumption and overdoses, while Bun B and Macklemore have spoken openly about using and subsequently quitting their consumption of lean.

Given that there are a plethora of more recent tracks dedicated to the practice of “pouring up a four,” lean’s popularity doesn’t appear to be waning. Wiz offered a disclaimer of sorts for those who might’ve taken offense to this post.

“Now for the lean sippers, don’t get all in your feelings,” Wiz added. “It’s for the people who don’t fuck with that shit. Feel empowered. Know lean is definitely lame.”
