Joey Badass Honors the Late Capital Steez with a ‘Steezus Piece’ Chain

Joey Badass continues to pay respects to his fellow Pro Era member Capital Steez.

Almost five years to the day after Capital Steez was found dead, Joey Badass is commemorating the memory of his fellow Pro Era member. Joey took to Instagram earlier this week and posted what appeared to be a gold and diamond-encrusted medallion bearing the likeness of the late Steez. Joey was publicly seen wearing the piece as recently as Dec. 17, during Power 106’s “Cali Christmas” concert in Inglewood, California.

“STEEZUS PIECE,” Joey wrote in the caption of his pic, opting to keep things brief. It was done by Greg Yuna, who also shared his creation on IG.

Jamal “Capital Steez” Dewar was found dead on Christmas Eve 2012, after posting a tweet that simply read, “The End” on December 23, 2012. He was 19 at the time.

Steez’s memory has lived on with his posthumous contributions to 2012’s Peep: The Aprocalypse project.

The solo Capital Steez effort, King Capital, was originally slated for a December 23 release to honor his memory. However, on December 11, Joey Badass announced the project would be delayed indefinitely due to “business legalities and sample clearances.”

“We know that we announced King Captal, the posthumous Capital STEEZ album, to be released on Dec. 23,” Joey wrote. “Unfortunately, due to business legalities and sample clearances it has again been pushed back till further notice. Anticipating the disappointment that I know you may be feeling right now, trust that it will be well worth the wait… We just gotta get it right. PEACE, LOVE & #LongLiveSTEELO.”

It’s safe to assume the annual Steez Day Festival will continue, and those looking to celebrate the work of Steez and familiarize themselves with his catalogue can also check out the Capital Steez mixtape, Amerikkkan Korruption.
