Young Thug's unexpected release from prison came with a hefty list of conditions, one of which prohibits him from promoting criminal street gang activity in his music—and fans are having a field day on social media.
On Thursday, news regarding the strict conditions for Thugger's release from prison were made public, and fans were blown away by what the rapper must abide by to ensure he doesn't return to prison. According to veteran reporter Meghann Cuniff, one of the conditions of the 33-year-old's release and 15-year probation period is that he is not allowed to promote any type of gang activity, make gang signs, or use gang-related language.
Most of Thug's music contains references to street life, and during his court proceedings, the state argued that the word "slatt," which he's used regularly in his music in the past, is a gang term. Thug is also required to give four anti-gang and anti-violence presentations per year to Atlanta youth, which could be a benefit concert.
While hearing the judge's decision on his release, Thug acknowledged how his old lyrics "could be twisted" by listeners, especially children who are huge fans of him.
"I understand what it could do to the minds of people. I understand all that. And I'm, I promise you, I'm 100 percent changing that, you know?" he said, while noting he's grown and has a plethora of different things to rap about now.
It's unclear if those conditions apply to the Atlanta native's current music catalog and if he can perform those older songs. Still, fans wasted no time imagining what post-prison Thug would sound like.
Some believe Thugger's music will contain more positivity, such as rapping "The Alphabet Song" or performing at a school denouncing drug use and violence, similar to how Zack Fox's character humorously did in a Season 1 episode of Abbott Elementary.
