Summer Walker is leaning into the rumors surrounding her new companion.

The R&B star sparked a wave of chatter at the 2025 MTV Video Music Awards when she arrived with an unidentified older man by her side. She described him only as a “special friend” on the carpet, brushing off deeper questions before heading inside.

Nearly a week later, the man’s name and background still remain a mystery, but fans online have already labeled him her possible “sugar daddy.” Walker didn’t ignore the speculation; instead, she addressed it directly during a recent livestream. After one viewer suggested she didn’t need financial help because of her own success, the Over It singer said she’s not the exception to being spoiled.

“‘You don’t need a sugar daddy, you’re your own sugar daddy.’ Uh-uh,” she said. “You sound like one of them n***as that be calling girls ‘big money.’ I don’t care if I got my own money. My money is mine, your money is mine.”

She then read another supportive comment aloud with a laugh: “‘Get them coins.’ Exactly. Sprinkle, mother freakin’ sprinkle.”

The comments don’t confirm whether her mystery date fits the sugar daddy label, but they do reveal Walker isn’t opposed to the idea of someone else footing the bill. As for the man himself, he briefly told reporters that he and Walker connected through mutual friends in Los Angeles.

When pressed about how long they’ve been involved, he and Walker quickly made their exit. Coming off a public split with rapper Rico Recklezz, Walker appears to be moving forward on her own terms, whether or not that includes a “special friend” willing to spoil her.
