Kevin Gates gave iShowSpeed a crash course in Louisiana culture during the streamer’s recent visit to New Orleans, and the conversation quickly turned to women.
In a viral clip from their livestream, Gates spoke proudly about the mothers of his children, emphasizing that they all hail from his home state. According to Gates, Louisiana is a melting pot of diverse women.
“All my baby mommas are from Louisiana. All of them,” Gates said. “Man it’s like being in Brazil, it’s just all different flavors. Got your caramel sundaes, chocolate easter bunnies, vanilla easter bunnies. It’s just all different flavors. Everything you could think of is right here. Creole shit you know it’s gumbo, it’s a mixture of everything.”
Speed then pressed Gates on whether he believed someone could find true love in Louisiana. Without hesitation, the rapper confirmed: “That’ll happen.”
Gates has two children with his wife Dreka Gates, daughter Islah, born in 2012, and son Khaza, born in 2014.
Gates has occasionally referenced having other children, but he rarely shares their names or details about their mothers.
In a 2013 interview with Complex, Gates confirmed this. "I got some children. I’m real real close with them,” he said. “I lay in the bed with them, hold them, love on them. It really doesn't make sense to say [how many kids I have]. Not in a bad way, but it’s not like the public will ever get to see my children, and if they do see them, they aren’t going to know they’re mine.”
He also spoke about caring for multiple kids and being involved in others’ lives in an interview with VladTV. Gates stated he has two children that were born around the same time from different mothers, one of whom was his best friend.
“Both of those women love me with all their heart,” said Gates.
