Coi Leray Defends Music Sampling Choices Following Criticism

Coi Leray has seemingly responded to criticism over her choice to sample Technotronic’s “Pump Up The Jam” on her song “Make My Day.”

On Friday, the 26-year-old took to her Twitter with a response to everyone who felt like the sample wasn’t hitting on the new track, which is set to be included on her upcoming album, COI. According to Leray, she can body a track with or without a sample.

“Bops doesn’t have a sample [] keep streaming BOPS OUT NOW [fire emoji] no more parties didn’t have a sample , Twinnem no sample, big purr no sample… but when I do a sample I BODYYYYY THAT MF !!!! [zany face emoji, kissing cat emoji, woman gesturing no emoji],” she tweeted.

The commotion began after Coi Leray shared a snippet of “Make My Day.” The track received some negative reactions from fans who wasted no time running to social media with their hot takes.

“You don’t have to keep remaking older song just to get older people to listen to it,” one person tweeted while another wrote, “Yea we don't want this.”

Some were excited over the track and gave it their stamp of approval with tweets such as: “Wait! All I Hear Is A Bop!” and “Listen listen listen. My GOODNESS THIS [fire emoji] Coi said she done playin wit y’all.”

Coi Leray won't let the polarizing reactions stop her from prepping the arrival of her next studio album COI. The artist announced she’ll be dropping her sophomore effort on June 23. The project will have 15 tracks and include features from David Guetta, Saucy Santana, Giggs, Lola Brooke, and Skillibeng.
