Billie Eilish has announced she’s collaborating with legendary filmmaker James Cameron on a 3D project currently being filmed during her four-night run in Manchester.
On Saturday night (July 19), Eilish surprised fans at her Co-op Live concert with the cryptic announcement that she’ll be working with Cameron. Eilish didn’t offer much information on the collaboration, but she did say that she has to wear the same outfit throughout her four shows in Manchester while filming the joint project due to continuity requirements.
“So you may have noticed that there are more cameras than usual in here,” Eilish said. “Basically, I can’t say much about it but what I can say is that I’m working on something very, very special with somebody named James Cameron and it’s going to be in 3D.”
She added, “So, take that as you will and these four shows here in Manchester, you and me are part of a thing that I am making with him. He’s in this audience somewhere, just saying. So don’t mind that, and also I’ll probably be wearing this exact outfit for like four days in a row.”
Cameron himself was reportedly in attendance for the performance on Saturday, adding fuel to fan speculation about the project’s scope. Online chatter quickly spread across social media, with fans guessing the project could be a documentary, film, or an elaborate music video.
Cameron, best known for Avatar and Titanic, has a long history with immersive cinema, making a potential visual collaboration with Eilish an intriguing project. If the project does end up being a film, this wouldn’t be the first time Eilish has ventured into the art form.
Her past film releases include Billie Eilish: The World’s a Little Blurry and the concert special Happier Than Ever: A Love Letter to Los Angeles. Eilish is currently in the middle of her Hit Me Hard and Soft world tour in support of her third studio album.
After wrapping up the tour in Europe, Eilish is set to perform in Japan before returning to the United States, where she’ll close things out on November 23 in San Francisco.
