Big Sean has revealed that Beyoncé thought his song "I Don't Fuck With You" was disrespectful but Jay-Z was all for him releasing it.
During a visit to the St. Brown Podcast, Sean Don reflected on the hit record and how it came about. According to Sean, the song came about from him messing around in the studio and wanting to make something that was in the lane of Too Short's catalog.
Sean was in the studio with Mustard, who produced the beat, and started to freestyle once he heard what the West Coast producer had created. However, Sean almost didn't release the song, but a meeting with Beyoncé and Jay-Z at their house changed his mind.
"I went to their house and was playing the song, and Beyonce was like, 'That's a little disrespectful, maybe you should put Nicki Minaj on it so there could be a female voice,' and then Jay-Z was like, 'Nah,'" Sean recalled. "As I heard it, he was like, 'People are gonna get it that it is just you having fun,' and then I remember I was getting texts from Hov, like, every day. He sent me a text one time that was like, 'Every day you not putting that song out, you're losing.'"
Sean added that he was still hesitant to drop the record but once he did and saw the instant reaction, he knew the right decision was made. "I Don't Fuck With You" was released in September 2014 and features E-40. The song is featured on Sean's third studio album, Dark Sky Paradise, and peaked at No. 11 on the Billboard Hot 100, giving Big Sean his third highest-charting single.
