Bad Bunny has been tapped to perform at the 2026 Super Bowl halftime show. The news was announced by the NFL, Apple Music, and Roc Nation on Sunday during halftime of the game between the Green Bay Packers and the Dallas Cowboys.

Bad Bunny tied the announcement to his decision to exclude the U.S. from his current string of performances.

“I was thinking these days, and after talking to my team, I think I will do one date in the United States," Bad Bunny tweeted in his native Spanish.

Earlier this month, he elaborated on his decision to exclude the U.S. on his tour, attributing his decision to a number of reasons.

"There were many reasons why I didn't show up in the U.S., and none of them were out of hate," he told i-D. "I've performed there many times. All of [the shows] have been successful."

Bad Bunny explicitly pointed to the threat of ICE as being one of the main reasons he chose not to perform in the U.S.

"I’ve enjoyed connecting with Latinos who have been living in the U.S.," he explained. "But specifically, for a residency here in Puerto Rico, when we are an incorporated territory of the U.S. … People from the U.S. could come here to see the show. Latinos and Puerto Ricans of the United States could also travel here, or to any part of the world. But there was the issue of—like, fucking ICE could be outside [my concert]. And it’s something that we were talking about and very concerned about."

Jay-Z, who has final say over who performs, issued an official statement explaining why Bad Bunny got the call. "What Benito has done and continues to do for Puerto Rico is truly inspiring," he said. "We are honored to have him on the world's biggest stage."

Bad Bunny also expressed his excitement in his own statement.

"What I'm feeling goes beyond myself," he said. "It's for those who came before me and ran countless yards so I could come in and score a touchdown… this is for my people, my culture, and our history. Ve y dile a tu abuela, que seremos el HALFTIME SHOW DEL SUPER BOWL.”

After debuting his sixth studio album, Debí Tirar Más Fotos earlier this year, Bad Bunny launched the No Me Quiero Ir de Aquí residency in San Juan, Puerto Rico. The residency, held at the iconic Coliseo de Puerto Rico José Miguel Agrelot, ran throughout the summer, with the first portion of shows reserved exclusively for Puerto Rico residents.

Following the residency’s close, Bad Bunny is set to take Debí Tirar Más Fotos on a worldwide tour, with stops across Latin America, Europe, Asia, and more.

Super Bowl LX will take place on February 8 at Levi’s Stadium in Santa Clara, California.
