A.B. Quintanilla III is setting a boundary when it comes to how fans celebrate his late sister, Selena.
In a pair of Instagram posts, the musician and producer shared heartfelt but candid thoughts about the wave of tribute videos he’s been receiving, many of which feature fans imitating Selena’s look, voice, or performance style.
“If you are a true Selena fan you know like me that she was an extraordinary inspirational performer but above all an amazing human being with a big heart,” Quintanilla wrote. He went on to say he doesn’t quite understand the fascination with lookalikes and imitation clips, even if they come from a place of admiration.
“It’s cool that girls imitate her and pay tribute to her,” he added, acknowledging the intent behind the content. “But please don’t send them to me.”
Quintanilla then drove the point home with a line that quickly caught attention online: “P.S. I’d rather watch a parrot singing ‘Como La Flor.’”
In a follow-up post, he leaned into the joke—sharing a video of an actual parrot vocalizing along to Selena’s classic track.
The posts reflect a complicated balance between honoring Selena’s enduring legacy and navigating the personal weight that comes with it. For Quintanilla, the constant stream of imitation videos appears to blur that line, even if fans mean well.
More than three decades after Selena’s death, her impact continues to resonate deeply. Fans across Texas and beyond recently marked the anniversary of her passing with tributes, vigils, and an outpouring of memories online, revisiting performances and celebrating her influence on music and culture.
The moment also comes amid ongoing developments tied to her legacy. The woman convicted of killing Selena remains behind bars after being denied parole last year, while her family has continued to protect her image through legal efforts and new projects that introduce her story to younger audiences.
