LAPD Believe Someone Tried to Commit Murder at Nipsey Hussle's Vigil (UPDATE)

UPDATED 04/11/19 10:20 a.m. ET: The Associated Press has obtained court papers confirming that two women were wounded by gunfire at a vigil for Nipsey Hussle. The women told LAPD that they were hit by bullets as the crowd fled. The suspect and the intended victim are still at large.

Last week, chaos ensued at a Nipsey Hussle memorial on Monday, which was caused by apparent gunshot-like noises. Though the memorial ended with injuries from stampeding, police concluded that there was no evidence that suggested a shooting occurred.

However, TMZ points out that police are currently searching for a an individual who reportedly attempted to commit murder at the vigil. A search warrant was filed in an effort to catch the perpetrator, and it indicates that two people were shot during the event. One woman, who was shot in the lower back/buttocks, claims to have heard "a loud, rapid succession of gunshots from an unknown direction," according to the warrant.

In addition, an affidavit indicates that investigators believe there to be a "surveillance system [that] captured the events leading up to, and after the attempted murder of Unknown victim." The documents also specify that no business, including Nip's Marathon store, is willing to turn over any surveillance footage. "The Marathon store has been involved in numerous investigation where surveillance video has been deleted by staff/management, prior to police arrival."

Nipsey's legacy is being honored by many in the hip-hop community. In addition, his album Victory Lap made a return to the Billboard 200, clinching a No. 2 spot this week.
