Social media allows us to share everything we are doing. Lucky for us, (almost) every one of our favorite rappers has a cell phone, an Instagram account, a Vine account, a YouTube account, etc., and in their moments of excitement, they'll give us a sneak peek behind the scenes. The most exciting of these previews comes in the form of a song snippet.
We might see the photo of Yung Lean and Travi$ Scott together in the studio, but we want the audio. And, we want it early. We want to obsess over what our favorite artist might have on the horizon. We want to be able to flex on more casual fans—"Oh, yeah, I remember when they played this for two seconds on a LiveStream back in 2011." Sometimes these snippets aren't released by the artist, and to those producers, songwriters, friends, hangers-on, and unscrupulous bloggers, we salute you. Previewing a song has now become a crucial step in building buzz, the oil for the hypemachine. Here are this year's 15 Most Anticipated Songs Based Off Snippets.

Lil Wayne and Mannie Fresh's Tha Carter V Track
If you were still on the fence on whether or not Tha Carter V will be good (Sidenote: Seriously? Have you heard how great Wayne is rapping lately?), knowing that there are Mannie Fresh-produced songs in the works should coax you over to the "Yes, it will be good" side. This 15-second snippet is like a time machine, transporting us to 2003, and the song previewed sounds like a 2014 version of "Bring It Back." Hard not to love everything about this snippet. Every song on C5 should be produced by Mannie Fresh.
Drake's "Heat of the Moment"
Drake singing. Oh, hell yeah. Since It's Never Enough is clearly never coming out in our lifetime, we're thankful for any R&B Young Angel croonings. It's still too early to call whether this will be on Views From the 6 or a random freebie Drake will toss on his blogspot at 3 a.m. in the coming months, but we're thankful for any music Aubrey decides to bestow upon us peasants.
Meek Mill and Migos' "Contagious"
Meek Mill doing triplet/Migos/Three 6 Mafia/Lord Infamous flow? We're listening.... Well, we were already listening...you know...because of Meek's yelling. Confirmed for Dreams Worth More Than Money, this might be the most anticipated track outside of "Scarface" featuring Nipsey and Jay Z. Obama really needs to flex and get Meek out of prison so we can have the full version by Thanksgiving. Forget pardoning that turkey. Free Meek! Make it happen, Barry.
Bobby Shmurda and Rowdy Rebel
Those questioning Shmurda's longevity might change their tune once this gets released. Quiet as kept, Rowdy Rebel is GS9's secret weapon, bringing a rambunctiousness that's hard to imitate to every track he's on. No clues as to where this might end up, but most likely it will be on Shmurda's Jahlil Beats-produced Epic Records debut album. One bit of advice though. As a general rule, don't film your friends doing drug deals and post it on social media. Feds watching.
Travi$ Scott and Metro Boomin
We've heard how well the results are when Travi$ Scott and Metro Boomin work together. This is no different. We need this instrumental now. Travi$ could get on the mic and read James Joyce's Ulysses in its entirety with this instrumental looped for hours, and it would still be one of the best rap songs of the year. Those menacing, pitched-down yelps offset by those high-pitched twinkles—this one is definitely going to be a problem. Scott isn't the type to just release loosies though. So, let's hope this is either a co-production for Metro Thuggin or he has another project to drop in the next year.
Earl Sweatshirt
With Odd Future, we usually have to wait for full projects to hear their new music. This is a special treat. We get not one, but two Sweatshirt snippets, and new Earl is always welcomed. Nothing unexpected here; it's straightforward Sweatshirt: extended, dense rhyme schemes over murky instrumentation. However, the beat with the sample in the beginning sounds like it has a lot of promise. We can't wait to see what else he has in store.
Kanye West's "Awesome"
Kanye apparently previewed his entire album in Paris the other night. The majority of new Kanye music we've been blessed with has been in the form of guest verse snippets. "Awesome," which has been around for over a year now in "freestyle" form, is the only Kanye song we've been lucky enough to be gifted. Yeezus must have been feeling generous, because on the season finale of Keeping Up With the Kardashians we finally got a CD-quality snippet. Awesome.
Theophilus London and Kanye West's "Can’t Stop"
Theophilus London's Vibes album is set to release in late October. It is executive produced by Kanye West and art directed by Karl Lagerfeld. If that wasn't enough to arouse a fair amount of buzz, London released Kanye's verse for "Can't Stop," which is exactly what you do when you have a Kanye West verse on your album. It displayed that "early Ye" every fan loves so much. Unfortunately, it has since been removed from the Internet. You would never know it even existed if it weren't for the graveyard that is SoundCloud-error embeds across the blogosphere. Stay strong, everyone. We only have one month to go.
Rich Homie Quan and Young Thug's "She Do the Most"
Many people predicted "She Do the Most" would be the second single from the Rich Gang: Tha Tour, Part 1 mixtape. That project was released, and this Rich Homie Quan-led track was sadly nowhere to be found. An extended, sing-along version has been on YouTube since July, and it actually highlights the best part of this song (and, really, their whole mixtape): drunkenly singing this with all of your friends. Rich Homie has a pension for pacing and phrasing, and, of course, catchy hooks. We're hoping for this sooner rather than later.
Young Thug's "Lil One"
There are literally millions of Young Thug songs and verses out there that may never be released. That's not an exaggeration either. Just look at the stills from the "2 Cups Stuffed" music video that will probably never come out. Somewhere, Lyor Cohen is walking into his Scrooge McDuck vault and cutting a gainer into a gigantic pile of flashdrives with nothing but Young Thug audio on them. Luckily, the Rich Gang: Tha Tour, Part 1 mixtape blessed us with an abundance of new Thugger. Unfortunately, "Lil One" was strangely left off of it. When WorldStar initially previewed this song, whoever put the video together was prescient enough to play the minute-long snippet twice, knowing everyone who listened would want to hear it more than once. Where as it seems Thug is being heartfelt in this song, Birdman's verse appears to be about killing people. Whatever future project it's on, we're eager to hear the final product.
Nicki Minaj
We'll gladly accept any Nicki Minaj songs we can get our ears near. Nicki stated this one did not make it onto The Pinkprint (scheduled for a Nov. 24 release). Perhaps it was sample clearance issues, but if The Pinkprint is Nicki's attempt at returning to her rapping roots, this decidedly R&B joint might not have fit the concept. Maybe she'll let this one go as a loosie for promo as the album release nears? Or, maybe she'll include it as a bonus song on the Target-exclusive deluxe version of the album? Or, maybe she'll include it as a bonus song on the Best Buy-exclusive deluxe version of the album? There are just so many options.
French Montana and Kanye West's "Money Can Change That"
Though French may no longer be hanging around the Kardashian household, at least we have this collaboration to look forward to. "Money Can Change That" will most likely wind up on French's sophomore album, Mac & Cheese 4. Kanye's "If your girl ain't got no ass, you need to buy one" lyric already makes this a classic. Maybe this one has been postponed because French needed to go back and switch out a few now out-of-date Khloe references.
Justin Bieber and DJ Mustard's "Turn Up"
This is not a drill people. Justin Bieber over a DJ Mustard beat. We have reached critical mass. Six months ago, Bieber previewed an album's worth of songs in one night. This "Turn Up" song obviously was one of the highlights. Despite it being a snippet, you can almost hear all the asses rubbing against crotches in nightclubs all across America. Unfortunately, we may never get to hear this one after Big Sean released "I Don't Fuck With You," which sounds to be over the exact same DJ Mustard instrumental. It's possible they aren't the same, and it's just DJ Mustard using those same three chords again in a slightly different manner. *Crosses Fingers*
Young Thug and Travi$ Scott's "Warrior"
Young Thug's influence was all over Travi$ Scott's Days Before Rodeo album, with their tracks being two of the standouts. Previewed way back in May, "Warrior" has been hyped by Thug, Metro, and La Flame. From the sounds of it, it's a monster. Who knows if this was supposed to be on DBR and got cut, or is slated for Metro Thuggin, or locked away in a vault for a future, proper Thugger album release. In addition to "Warrior," let's pray we get this "Dip It in Gold" track soon, as well.
Chief Keef and Kanye West's "Nobody"
The last time Chief Keef and Kanye got together, it was brief but glorious. Keef serenaded us with a half-chorus on "Hold My Liquor." Though "Nobody" was not one of the 17 songs in the photo Keef posted of the Bang 3 tracklist, we can assume it's a late addition. Keef's manager confirmed they worked on several songs together for each other's projects, even posting this picture of the two in the studio. They are two for two at this point ("I Don't Like Remix" and "Hold My Liquor"), and from the sound of "Nobody," the streak is still going. Now, if only Bang 3 can get an actual release date....
