Black Coffee Says Drake and Lil Baby Are 'Making an Album'

Black Coffee, who contributed to Drake's 'Honestly, Nevermind,' said he heard the news directly from Coach K, the boss of Lil Baby's label home Quality Control.

It sounds like Drake and Lil Baby have more heat on the way.

The Grammy-winning rappers first joined forces on “Yes Indeed,” a standout cut from Lil Baby’s 2018 debut album Harder Than Ever. Since then, the two have reunited on multiple fan-favorites like “Girls Want Girls,” DJ Khaled’s “Staying Alive,” “Wants and Needs,” and “Never Recover” with Gunna. Now, nearly five years after their first collaboration, Drake and Baby have reunited for a full-length project—at least that’s what Black Coffee reports.

The South African DJ/producer spread the word during a recent spot on Podcast and Chill with MacG. Black Coffee, who received producer credits on Drizzy’s Honestly, Nevermind, casually dropped the detail when recalling a conversation with Kevin “Coach K” Lee, co-founder of Lil Baby’s label home Quality Control.

“He had said to me Lil Baby and Drake are making an album,” Black Coffee claimed at the 3:01:04 mark, adding, “It’s possible that Drake is retiring.”

The rappers and Coach K have yet to respond to the comments. You can watch the full Black Coffee interview here.

Baby and Drake are no strangers to collaborative projects. The former linked with Gunna on Drip Harder (2018) and Lil Durk on The Voice of the Heroes (2021). The OVO boss previously connected with Future on What a Time to Be Alive in 2015, then 21 Savage on Her Loss last fall.

Drake teased a possible 2023 album during his January performance at the Apollo Theater.

“I’ve thought about a bunch of things in life, but at this moment in time, none of those things are stopping making music for you, so I’ll be here for you for a little bit at least,” he told the crowd. “And I hope I can strike up more emotions for you, maybe this year. I might get bored and make another one, who knows.”

Drake ignited retirement rumors about a month later, when he revealed he was already considering his “graceful exit.”

“I feel like maybe we talked about this the other day—but I feel like I’m kind of introducing the concept in my mind of a graceful exit,” Drake told Lil Yachty on A Moody Conversation. “I’ll still be around to like, you know, work with people or do a show here or there, but I’m not going to like, force myself to compete. … So I guess that’s the one thing that I want for myself really badly.”
