Authorities recently removed recording equipment inside Tory Lanez’s prison cell.

Ceasar McDowell, chief deputy on Tory’s legal team, tells TMZ Hip Hop that his client's recording tools were seized as part of a raid conducted by prison guards. McDowell was informed that inmates at the California Correctional Institution are “strictly forbidden” from possessing recording devices for a variety of reasons.

No word yet on if a penalty will be handed down due to the infraction.

Ahead of the release of "Wish I Never Met You," the first song in the Prison Tapes series, a recorded call was posted on his Instagram in which Lanez said he and his engineer figured out a way to put together music with adequate sound quality after plenty of trial and error.

"After about 20-something to 30-something fuckups and mistakes, me and my engineer have finally figured out how to record music over the jail phone and still keep the quality as professional as I had it on the street," he said. "It's over. I done cracked the fucking code, man. This means that not even these prison walls can stop me from dropping new music. It's crazy!"

Tory was sentenced to 10 years in prison for his involvement in the 2020 shooting of Megan Thee Stallion. He was found guilty on three charges in Dec. 2022, which included assault with a semiautomatic firearm, having a concealed and loaded firearm in a vehicle and discharge of a firearm with gross negligence.

A judge denied Lanez's request to be released as his legal team worked on an appeal.
