Rihanna's "SOS" Verse: Songwriter Evan 'Kidd' Bogart Reveals Hidden '80s Song Titles in Track

Released nearly two decades ago, "SOS" became Rihanna's first No. 1 song on the Billboard Hot 100.

Evan "Kidd" Bogart revealed that several popular song titles from the 1980s are hidden in the second verse of Rihanna's 2006 hit single "SOS."

Bogart, who is credited as one of the songwriters on "SOS," told Daniel Wall on the Behind the Wall podcast that he thought it would be "clever" to construct a verse consisting of chart-topping '80s songs, such as a-ha's "Take On Me," "(I Just) Died in Your Arms" by Cutting Crew, and Tears for Fears' “Head Over Heels.”

"When I wrote it I had no idea what I was doing," he said. "The whole second verse of that song is ‘80s song titles strung together as sentences because I thought it would be clever."

"That's incredible! I had no idea," a stunned Wall said, to which Bogart responded, "No one does."

Released as the lead single from Rihanna's second album, A Girl Like Me, 'SOS' topped the Billboard Hot 100. The project features several other standout tracks, including "Unfaithful" and "Break It Off" featuring Sean Paul.

Speaking of music from RiRi, fans have been clamoring for her long-awaited project, R9, since the release of her last album, Anti, in 2016. The project was a huge success, reaching No. 1 on the Billboard 200 in its second week and earning the singer two Grammy nominations.
