An AI-generated video of Rich Homie Quan has not been well-received after being released earlier today on the late rapper’s X account.
The teaser appears to be linked to a music video for the song “Still Dead,” which is inspired by the 2022 death of PnB Rock.
The snippet plays out like a typical music video in which Quan is seen rapping in front of the camera at various locations, entering through the front door of a home and hugging his children, and taking a phone call inside a car. The only thing is the portrayal of Quan comes entirely from generative AI.
One person responded that the video is “wild and lowkey disrespectful.”
Others preferred that those behind this decision left the memory of Quan alone.
Some proposed going with animation, with one person bringing up Juice WRLD’s “Already Dead.”
Someone mentioned the potential hypocrisy over complaints about an AI-generated Quan when there did not seem to be as much backlash for the Tupac hologram at Coachella in 2012.
Even though the response has been overwhelmingly negative, it may be too late to change course, given how much has been invested.
“Still Dead” will be released at midnight.
