A news anchor in Texas is under fire after he made an inappropriate joke during a segment about a collaboration between OREO and BTS.
While providing information about the limited-edition cookies, James Eppler of Good Day Lubbock joked that the special message to their fans, which is formed when putting together three embossed wafers, would read, “Death to America.”
Eppler immediately tried to make light of his bizarre comment, but BTS fans are certainly not letting him live it down.
As of this writing, there’s no word on an apology from Eppler and/or FOX 34. Eppler is also an adjunct instructor at Texas Tech University.
On June 8, OREO will begin rolling out the limited-edition cookies, which include wafers in their traditional purple color and a brown sugar pancake-flavored creme, inspired by the popular Korean food, hotteok.
“In Korea, there's a national snack called hotteok, and we took inspiration from it and explained to OREO what that flavor tastes like,” Jin said of the flavor. “We wanted to share with everyone the kinds of dessert flavors Koreans enjoy. It really tastes a lot like hotteok.”
The cookies will also serve as a celebration of the group’s 13th anniversary with 13 different embossments designed for their fans.
