Footage of NBA YoungBoy fans turning up while his documentary American YoungBoy plays in movie theaters have started to circulate online.
American YoungBoy, the Nico Ballesteros-directed documentary which chronicles the Baton Rouge rapper’s 42-show MASA Tour last year, was released in select theaters on Wednesday (April 22). Since then, clips have surfaced showing people dancing, reciting his lyrics, and even gathering right in front of the big screen.
One person perfectly summed up the experience in their video, writing, “POV: You thought you was coming to watch a documentary but it was concert.”
Here was the scene in a movie theater in Orlando.
This is what it looked like at a New Jersey movie theater.

Spanning from Sept. 2 to Oct. 19, the MASA Tour made a reported $70 million from over 500,000 tickets sold, making it the highest-grossing tour by a debut headlining rapper in U.S. history.
NBA YoungBoy has been called this generation’s Michael Jackson, a fitting comparison since his documentary is going up against MJ’s biopic Michael at the box office this weekend. In an interview with Complex’s Jordan Rose, the 26-year-old pushed back on the claim, saying, “You gotta think about my age, bro,” adding, “I don't know anything about no Michael Jackson.”
YoungBoy ultimately thought the comparison was an over-exaggeration. “That’s going too far,” he said.
