Ariana Grande Comes to Kesha's Defense: "I Don't Think a Male Artist Would Be in This Position"

Ariana Grande is coming to the defense of fellow female artist, Kesha. During an interview at ​97.1 Amp Radio, host Carson Daly brought up Kesha's very public legal battle with Dr. Luke. Ariana offered her support and even explained a little about their shared history. "I love Kesha. I worked with her when I was a lot younger," she said. "We’ve been friends, I support her, regardless of what’s going on. I didn’t know about a lot of this. At the time I was really young. We didn’t discuss any of this." It's understandable that Ariana had no previous knowledge about Kesha's history with Luke since Kesha first went public about her experience with Luke in 2014.

She didn't leave her support at that, though, as she went on to describe what it's like being a female in the music industry. "The incredible double standards that we [women] face on a daily basis, in the industry and just in the world, it’s shocking," she added. "I would be so amused—and pardon me if this comes across as sexist—but I don’t think a male artist would be in this position right now." She also said she is not worried about any backlash she might face for coming to the defense of Kesha because her "fellow women are definitely something that I will always be one of the first to speak up about."

Late last night, the young singer dropped the title track off her forthcoming album and finally revealed that the anticipated project will be arriving May 20. She will be performing the song, along with another new track, this weekend when she hosts and performs on Saturday Night Live. Listen to Ariana's full interview below.
