The death of Sam Rivers, the Limp Bizkit co-founder, shocked and saddened fans and his band members because of his young age.

Rivers was 48 when he died on October 18.

Many fans wondered how Rivers died. Now, new clues have emerged about the circumstances of his death, although a formal cause of death was not released.

According to TMZ, Rivers may have had a heart attack. A 911 call from St. Johns County, Florida that sent first responders to Rivers' home was for a "nonresponsive person in cardiac arrest."

The call also indicated that Rivers' death was an "attended one," which, according to TMZ, means he was under medical care at the time of his death.

Rivers had longstanding serious health issues. He told an author that he had a liver transplant years ago as a result of his excessive drinking, LoudWire reported. However, he was healthy enough to perform in an aggressive concert tour across multiple countries, according to photos and videos he posted on Instagram.

Recent posts showed him performing everywhere from Poland to Abu Dhabi.

One of his band members, DJ Lethal, expressed shock in a comment on Limp Bizkit's death announcement for Rivers.

“We love you Sam Rivers. Please respect the family’s privacy at this moment. 🕊️ give Sam his flowers and play Sam rivers basslines all day!” DJ Lethal commented on the band’s Instagram thread. "We are in shock. “Rest in power my brother ! You will live on through your music and the lives you helped save with your music , charity work and friendships. We are heartbroken 💔 enjoy every millisecond of life. It’s not guaranteed ✌️."

Limp Bizkit announced Rivers' death in an October 18 Instagram post. "Today we lost our brother. Our bandmate. Our heartbeat," the band wrote.

"From the first note we ever played together, Sam brought a light and a rhythm that could never be replaced. His talent was effortless, his presence unforgettable, his heart enormous," the band added.
