Netflix's Nina Simone documentary, What Happened, Miss Simone?, is set for release in just over a week and a compilation of covers of the Jazz great's music will follow shortly after. The compilation, Nina Revisited: A Tribute to Nina Simone, will be released on July 11th and features performances from the likes of Lauryn Hill, Usher, Common, Mary J. Blige, and more.
According to Rolling Stone, Hill was set to record a pair of songs for the album before she signed on as a producer alongside Robert Glasper. The final tracklist ended up featuring half a dozen covers by Ms. Hill herself and the first one, a cover of Simone's ubiquitous hit "Feeling Good," is finally here.
"Because I fed on this music, both hers and lovers like her, like my basic food, I believed I always had a right to have a voice," Hill says of the project in a recent statement. "Her example is clearly a form of sustenance to a generation needing to find theirs. What a gift."
