Rubin was a vital collaborator during the making of his sixth studio album Yeezus. Just over a month before the album's release, the Def Jam co-founder and producer was called in to help overhaul what could have been a messy record. In an interview with Newsweek, Rubin describes how his involvement on Yeezus came to be: "[The original version Kanye had was] kind of meandering, unfocused, usually without his vocals. I assumed that the album was scheduled to come out next year. So I said, 'When are you thinking of finishing up?' And he said, 'It’s coming out in five weeks.' Like completely confident and fine."
In a little over two weeks, Rubin and Kanye reworked the album's sound completely. “The idea of making it edgy and minimal and hard was Kanye’s. I’d say, 'This song is not so good. Should I start messing with it? Can I make it better?' And he’d say, 'Yes, but instead of adding stuff, try taking stuff away.'” He concluded his Kanye story saying there "maybe" could be a Yeezus part two in future.
Recently, there's been Kanye West spottings in Jackson, Wyoming, where he's presumably working on his next album. Travis Scott, King Louie, The-Dream, and Kid Cudi have also touched down in the cowboy state to hang. West himself has remained silent about the project.
