Ziggy Marley, the oldest child of Bob Marley, has grown to recognize the impact of his theme song for Arthur nearly 30 years after the show debuted.
The reggae musician was a guest on the Monday (April 27) episode of The Zach Sang Show, where he recounted the origins of “Believe In Yourself,” the theme song of the former PBS Kids show. Arthur ran for 25 seasons from 1996 to 2022.
Marley explained that he’s come into “understanding the impact” of “Believe In Yourself,” although a recent fundraiser for PBS revealed that some didn’t know that he was the artist behind the song.
Marley added that prior to crafting the Arthur theme song, he contributed music to Sesame Street and that children have always gravitated to his music. The musician also joked that he would have negotiated a “better contract” if he knew how popular Arthur would become. The 57-year-old went on to acknowledge that “music is a powerful thing,” which has also been passed down from his legendary father across generations.
“That's why I mean we do the music we do because that's a part of who we are and we try to express that to other people,” Marley said.
The 8-time Grammy winner concluded by saying that the goal of his music is to “make humanity better.” Last year, Marley took fans down memory lane by performing a live rendition of “Believe In Yourself,” which can be watched above.
