YoungBoy Never Broke Again gave back to Dallas for selling out two opening concerts on his comeback tour.
The Baton Rouge rapper, who's currently on his Make America Slime Again (MASA) Tour, begins his multi-city trek on Sept. 1 and 2 at the American Airlines Center in Dallas. Ahead of the first performance, on Sunday (Aug. 31), YoungBoy, real name Kentrell DeSean Gaulden, donated $50,000 to local nonprofits Manifest Freedom, co-founded by his lawyer Brittany K. Barnett, and anti-gang violence nonprofit Urban Specialists.
In an interview with Fox 4 News, that his philanthropic efforts were meant to "help try to stop the crime." "You know, a lot of people be getting hurt, so it ain’t really cool at this point to me, so I just want to help in any way I [can]," he said.
Atong Lucky, founder of Urban Specialists, noted that YoungBoy's donation is "sending messages throughout America that redemption and transformation [are] real for these young people."
"'Cause a lot of them young people find themselves in the shoes of feeling like they’re NBA YoungBoy," he continued.
The MASA tour makes YoungBoy's first performance outing in five years after a brush with legal issues involving firearm possession and obtaining prescription drugs through identity fraud.
In May, the 25-year-old was granted clemency by President Donald Trump after previously serving a 23-month sentence for a federal gun charge.
"I want to thank President Trump for granting me a pardon and giving me the opportunity to keep building - as a man, as a father, and as an artist," YoungBoy said in a statement shared to social media. "This moment means a lot. It opens the door to a future I've worked hard for and I am fully prepared to step into this."
