Wiz Khalifa threw some subtle shade at Drake during his Club Shay Shay appearance on Wednesday (December 11).
The Pittsburgh rapper spoke to host Shannon Sharpe on the latest episode of the podcast, where Drake's legal fillings against Universal Music Group were brought up. Although Drizzy is signed to UMG through Republic Records, he's initiated a petition against the music corporation and Spotify, claiming both entities artificially inflated the popularity of Kendrick Lamar's "Not Like Us," in addition to a second filling against iHeartRadio alleging defamation.
"Bout time. I’m tired of n***as acting like they’re cool with each other. Just speak how you really feel, bro," Khalifa said around the 31-minute mark about Drake and Kendrick's beef.
When asked if he was surprised about Drake suing UMG, Khalifa joked, "Naw, it sounds like a Drake move to me." It's worth noting that Drake isn't actually suing the aforementioned entities. What Drake filed are “pre-action” petitions, which are letters sent to the court before a lawsuit is filed, asking for certain information.
Although Drake previously collaborated with those that he's currently at odds with, including the GNX rapper, Khalifa credited those alliances to the 5-time Grammy winner being a "businessman."
"Well, he's a musician and a businessman in my eyes," he said. "So it's like, if he's not in the public eye winning musically, he's going to get win wherever he can. I mean it's a smart thing to do, in my opinion. They're playing it exactly how they're supposed to."
When asked if he thinks that the beef is orchestrated, the "On My Level" artist doubted it.
"No, I don’t think them n***as fuck with each other at all. I don't think none of them n***as like each other," he said.
He continued, "It's just how the industry is and all of that's coming to an end now, and it's all spilling out, and you got you're getting to see it. But this is also like wrestling as well, so the same people who are arguing can be like cool instantly. So it's like, don't get too caught up on the animosity part. Not them, but, in general, but people will be hugging later."
While Khalifa can't "personally" speak on if Drake and Kendrick will reconcile, it doesn't seem that the two will make amends anytime soon. The petitions Drake filed against UMG and Spotify are set to be heard by the New York Supreme Court in January, preceded by a hearing for the second pre-action petition for defamation on December 19, per XXL.
