Warren G Wishes He Got His Credit for West Coast Rap, Says He 'Really Had Input’

The rapper believes people would understand that he was "really involved."

Warren G believes that if more people recognized his contributions to West Coast rap, he would probably be on a level similar to Dr. Dre and Snoop Dogg.

Following his appearance at the 2025 BET Awards during Snoop's tribute set, the rapper and producer visited The Breakfast Club, where he expressed feeling slighted in comparison to Dre, who is his stepbrother, and Snoop.

Around the 31-minute mark of the video above, Warren G recalled bringing samples to Dre for him to produce his solo debut, The Chronic.

"I ain't never taking nothing away from Dre; he's an incredible producer, the whole nine," he said. "I was the guy that used to go out, I would bring all of the ideas, so I would bring the samples, and I would sample it, and I play it for Dre like, 'Listen to this.' And then he'd be like, 'That shit is dope.'"

Warren said that he was simply trying to "give back" to Dre but also help him "grow," although he received "no credit" on tracks like "Deeez Nuuuts," "Lil' Ghetto Boy" or "Let Me Ride."

While Warren denied involvement in Snoop's debut, Doggystyle, he said that he isn't "bitter" about not being credited on The Chronic, although he was "pissed off" that he didn't understand the business at the time.

Warren later joked that being credited would "definitely look good for my pocket," and listeners would know that he "really had input." But the rapper insisted that he's not "trying to take nothing away" from Dre, whom he called his "sensei."

Also in the interview, Warren spoke on his estrangement from Dre, just weeks after sharing his disappointment that he wasn't invited backstage at the Super Bowl LVI.
