When there's Beyoncé shade, Ms. Tina Knowles isn't too far away to protect her oldest daughter.
Although singer Dolly Parton likely didn't intend to upset Ms. Tina, the country music icon recently spoke on Beyoncé's Cowboy Carter not receiving any CMA Awards nominations. In an interview with Variety, the "I Will Always Love You" artist disagreed that Beyoncé was snubbed. Parton appeared on multiple Cowboy Carter songs, with Beyoncé remaking her signature hit "Jolene."
"Well, you never know," Parton told Variety. "There’s so many wonderful country artists that, I guess the country music field, they probably thought, 'Well, we can’t really leave out some of the ones that spend their whole life doing that.'"
But Parton's response was reportedly distasteful to Ms. Tina, who allegedly defended Beyoncé via Instagram on Thursday (September 19."
"Oh Ms. Dolly, we love you, but Bey did spend her WHOLE life workin' hard, since she was 9!" Ms. Tina reportedly wrote. "She got country roots too."
"She mastered her craft and broken records in EVERY genre. So sayin' she didn't "spend her life" in country music dismisses all that work she put in," Ms. Tina continued.
"Bey don't need to stay in one lane to get respect–her talent and work ethic speak for themselves! She's been puttin' in the work, and nobody else gets asked to "spend their life" in one place to be recognized!"
While Beyoncé has stated that Cowboy Carter isn't a country album, although it's heavily country-influenced, Ms. Tina explained her family's cowboy ties on Instagram earlier this year.
"We have always celebrated Cowboy Culture growing up in Texas," Ms. Tina captioned a post that showed a montage of her daughter wearing cowboy attire. "We also always understood that it was not just about it belonging to White culture only."
"In Texas there is a huge Black cowboy culture," she continued. "Why do you think that my kids have integrated it into their fashion and art since the beginning. When people ask why is Beyonce wearing cowboy hats?"
"It's really funny, I actually laugh because it's been there since she was a kid ,we went to rodeos every year and my whole family dressed in western fashion . Solange did a whole brilliant Album and Project based on Black Cowboy Culture. @. It definitely was a part of our culture growing up."
