T.I. has been hinting for a while that his latest album, Kill the King, would be his last — but it looks like this might not be entirely true.
On the album's final track, the Juicy J co-produced "Continental," the Atlanta rapper extensively reflects on the earlier parts of his career and his journey to establishing himself as a premier artist.
"To triple-deckers and jet-skis on foreign water / From only wantin' a gold album to goin' harder," T.I. raps in the song’s first verse.
However, despite his claims this album would be his last, if you listen closely to the closing seconds of the song, it concludes with the faint voice of a woman saying: "To be continued…"
Whether this means he's not ready to hang up his mic as far as making albums goes, or that there's a deluxe edition of the album on the way, it's clear that fans would be happy with either result given the positive response to his 12th LP.
T.I. previously spoke on planning for Kill the King to be his last studio album, explaining that he wanted to make room for up-and-coming rappers to claim their space in the industry.
"It's a kid somewhere right down in that same position, man, praying for their opportunity," T.I. said on the Friday (June 25) episode of The Breakfast Club. "And you know, it's time to let them get some. I can't ask for no more than the game already gave me."
Following 2020’s The L.I.B.R.A. album, Kill the King features appearances from Anderson .Paak, Summer Walker, Usher, YoungBoy Never Broke Again and more.
The album saw early success with the Pharrell Williams-produced single "Let 'Em Know," which topped Billboard’s US Rhythmic Airplay chart.
