NLE Choppa's mother has lent help to a local Memphis family who were victims of a recent apartment fire.
According to local news outlet Action News 5, Angeleta Potts, who is also the Memphis rapper's manager, stepped in to help the Jefferson family, who were displaced by a fire that blazed through a Fox Meadows complex on Saturday (December 19). A two-story duplex perished in the fire that raged into the afternoon. One civilian and one firefighter were transported for medical care after sustaining injuries.
The accidental fire reportedly began in a kitchen where a pizza box was set ablaze while on a stovetop. Property damage amounted to $320,000 in building loss, $160,000 in lost contents, and exposure damage was also $320,000.
Assisting one family who lost their home with two months of rent-free housing for the holiday season, Potts said: "Wow, like, if that was to happen to me, I would pray that somebody would reach out and want to help me."
She continued: "And just to think about children not having anywhere to stay or don’t have any toys to open up on Christmas... that just wouldn’t sit well with me."
The family is still recovering from the incident, with one victim, Corey Jefferson, sharing that he's "still overwhelmed" from the unexpected fire.
"We’ve been on a roller coaster ride. We staying in suburbs about three to four years, trying to save and downsize. Another situation happened where they sold that house," he said.
Losing the apartment caused the family to separate, with some staying in a hotel and others staying with relatives. But Potts wanted to answer the Jefferson family’s prayers.
Five other families who were victims of the Fox Meadows fire are still looking for available housing.
