Mariah Carey wouldn't consider herself a "fan" of artificial intelligence.

So after speculation arose that the "All I Want for Christmas Is You" used the technology to enhance her 2024 Spotify Wrapped message, she promptly responded on X.

In the video below, the five-time Grammy winner thanked her top fans on the music streaming platform.

"Thank you so much for listening to my music on Spotify. Your support through the year is the greatest gift I could ask for," Carey said. "This year we're celebrating the 30th anniversary of my album Merry Christmas. I hope you enjoy listening to it, and I can't wait to share new music with you soon."

But comments beneath the video ranged from fans complimenting Carey ("It must be hard being so gorgeous that nobody believes you’re real"), to someone writing, "i can’t tell if this is ai or she got a gun pointed at her..."

Before the AI allegations got too out of hand, Carey reposted the video on Thursday (Dec. 5).

"Bad lighting and a red lip have you all thinking this is AI??" she wrote ahead of the Boston date of her Christmas Time tour. "There’s a reason I’m not a fan of either of those things! About to celebrate #Christmastime with my Boston #lambily! 💘💘💘."

The Christmas Time Tour, which began in November, continues for six more dates, concluding on Dec. 17 in Carey's hometown of New York City. On Friday (Dec. 6) singer released a 30th anniversary edition of her classic Merry Christmas album.
