Celebrating one year of sobriety, Machine Gun Kelly has recently looked back on those who've helped him reach the milestone. One of those individuals was his 15-year-old daughter, Casie.

MGK, who's suggested that alcohol and substance dependency are generational curses passed down by his late father, spoke about his daughter's revelation on the latest episode of podcast, Million Dollaz Worth of Game.

Around the 13-minute mark of the video below, the Cleveland native opened up about seeking sobriety after a conversation with Casie, whom MGK shares with his former partner, Emma Cannon.

"It started with my daughter saying, 'Dad, you know I can tell when you're high?' It broke my heart," MGK told hosts Gillie Da Kid and Wallo. "It was the ultimate letdown."

He added that the conversation was had when Casie was 11 or 12.

"It took me a while afterward because obviously drugs have a vice grip on you," MGK continued. “Also, bro, I grew up in a house where being somebody else was beaten into me. So it gets to the point when you're when you're in fifth grade, sixth grade, you start to become ashamed of who you are because you aren't who your father wants you to be. And really, that's just a reflection of him not being who he wanted to be.”

Sharing that he’s a “volleyball dad” in support of his daughter, around that the 16:30-minute mark, MGK specified why he took sobriety seriously. “That was step one for me. As a father and as a man, to be the father I wish my dad would have been, I have to break this generational curse for my kid."

Now one year sober, which he shared earlier this month on the podcast Dumb Blonde, MGK recently celebrated his daughter's 15th birthday with a photo carousel bonding time he's spent with her over the years.
