A Kendrick Lamar verse on his surprise album GNX has reopened old wounds.
On album track "wacced out murals," the Compton native regrets that he "let Lil Wayne down" pertaining to being named the Super LIX halftime show headliner.
"I used to bump Tha Carter III, I held my Rollie chain proud / Irony, I think my hard work let Lil Wayne down," Lamar raps on "wacced out murals."
K.Dot is set to perform at the NFL championship being held on Feb. 9 at the Caesars Superdome in New Orleans, Louisiana. But before it was official, Lil Wayne had campaigned to be the headliner at the game in his hometown.
Elsewhere, the 17-time Grammy winner added Nas was among the few rappers who congratulated him, as others have publicly backed Weezy.
"Got the Super Bowl and Nas the only one congratulate me/ all these n***as agitated, I’m just glad it’s on their faces," Kendrick continued.
As "wacced out murals" began to make its rounds on social media after the surprise GNX drop on Friday, Weezy showed his awareness of the song and promptly responded on X.
"Man wtf I do?! I just be chillin & dey still kome 4 my head," he wrote before teasing that he may give an official response on wax.
"Let’s not take kindness for weakness. Let this giant sleep. I beg u all," Weezy continued. "No one really wants destruction, not even me but I shall destroy if disturbed. On me. Love."
Lil Wayne, who received a temporary guest slot on NFL GameDay Morning after the Super Bowl snub, expressed in an Instagram reel in September that he was "hurt" about not being named Super Bowl 2025 headliner.
At the time, the rapper said he "thought there was nothing better than that stage and that platform my city."
"It hurt a lot," Weezy told fans and supporters. "But y’all are fucking amazing. It made me feel like shit not getting this opportunity and when I felt like shit you guys reminded me that I ain’t shit without y’all. That’s an amazing reality."
