JID has posted a tribute online three weeks after the death of his father, Carl Louis Route Jr.

On Wednesday (Mary 6), the Dreamville Records artist shared on Instagram that he had recently buried his father and initially didn’t want to post the heartbreaking news.

“I aint even wana post this but he deserves to be honored , the most brilliant man I have ever known,” JID captioned the post. “The world is so much colder with out you here but I’m not discouraged, I remember every single world u have ever said to me and I will execute !”

He continued, “You built the strongest tribe ever and we will mourn and grieve until the day we meet again ❤️Love you Skip.”

Along with posting a picture of Louis when he was younger, JID shared a reel of a U.S. Army serviceman saluting the flag at his father’s burial. According to his obituary, Louis died on April 15 at Emory University Hospital in Atlanta. He was 68 years old.

Louis can be heard giving a message of encouragement to his son on “2007” from JID’s third studio album, The Forever Story, which was released in 2022.
